State a price range on the page

Published · by

No price, starting price, or range appears on this page, which quietly excludes it from one of the most common buying prompts AI assistants get: how much does this cost. AI answers about cost are assembled from pages that state numbers, so a page with none is not in the pool. You do not need a full price list. A stated range, a starting price, or a per-unit rate is enough to be quotable, and this is an advisory check that earns no points yet.

Why does pricing decide whether AI names you?

Because cost questions are answered from pages that contain numbers, and models skip pages that don’t. Ask any assistant what a service costs in your city and the answer cites pages that state ranges, then names the businesses behind them. A page that says “contact us for a quote” gives the model nothing to lift, so it lifts a competitor’s range and names the competitor.

In the AI Presence methodology, stated pricing is part of the readability gate for exactly this reason.

What counts as stating a price?

Any of these, in visible text on the page: a dollar figure, a range (“$1,500 to $4,000”), a starting price (“from $149”), or a per-unit rate (“per hour”, “per visit”). The scanner looks for the same patterns a model would recognize, including currency symbols and codes like CAD or USD.

A price inside an image, a PDF, or a JavaScript-rendered calculator does not count, because AI crawlers read the raw HTML.

How should you word it when prices vary?

Give the honest range and the two or three things that move it, in one short paragraph. “Most basement water damage jobs in Toronto run $1,500 to $8,000.

The range depends on how much drywall has to come out, how long the drying takes, and whether there is mould.” That sentence is quotable, sets expectations without a commitment, and puts the page in the cost-answer pool. Put it under a question heading like “How much does it cost?” so the answer shape matches the question-headings check and lands in the first part of the section, where front-loaded answers get lifted.

What if you genuinely cannot publish a price?

State the pricing model and the floor instead: “Priced per project, with most jobs starting around $2,000.” Regulated or enterprise services can state “from” pricing on a starting tier, or the range clients typically pay, without listing a rate card. Something is what matters. Rescan after adding it and the check will pass; the points arrive once calibration confirms this predicts being named.
