Add a meta description that summarizes the page
Your page is missing a meta description, or the one it has falls outside the useful 50–160 character range. The meta description is your page’s self-summary - the sentence search snippets and AI systems fall back on when deciding what your page covers.
What should a meta description say?
Answer “what is this page and who is it for?” in one or two sentences. Include the topic in plain words, a specific detail that differentiates you, and - for commercial pages - the action a visitor can take. Skip keyword stuffing; write the sentence you’d want quoted.
Why 50–160 characters?
Below ~50 characters the summary says nothing useful. Above ~160, display surfaces cut it off mid-sentence and the writing usually rambles. The constraint is the feature: it forces a single clear claim about the page.
How do you add it?
In HTML it’s one tag in the head:
<meta name="description" content="One clear sentence about this page." />
Every CMS exposes this as a “meta description” or “search description” field per page. Make each page’s description unique - duplicates tell machines your pages are interchangeable.
Deploy and rescan to confirm the check passes. The description works as a pair with your title tag, since AI systems judge both together before opening a page.
